Top 5 2018 Fashion Trends

 

Each year I look forward  to seeing what the new fashion trends will be.  Every site has a different idea of what will be in for the upcoming year.  I have been working on this post for quite a while cultivating a list of the top fashion trends for 2018.  Some of the trends are carried over from 2017, and I have to say that I am not mad about it!  Many of the lists I found for the top trends had different items listed, but I choose trends that kept reappearing to focus on!  I would love to hear what you think about the ones that I have chosen to include!  Are you loving or hating the year’s trends?

Goal Update and Keeping Motivated

I totally HATE working out!  I have never enjoyed it, and never gotten the runner’s high so many people talk about.  I  tried so many different workouts to keep me motivated.  The only one I keep coming back to is Pilates and activities that are not high intensity.  To help keep me motivated I like to have cute workout accessories!

I have challenged myself to set an exercise goal Monday through Friday.  I recently got an Apple watch for Christmas and love the fact that it tracks both my workouts and my steps.  I may not always get my steps in, but I know if it is a workout day I will definitely burn the targeted amount of calories.  This has helped keep me on track and not feel overwhelmed!  For some reason weekends are hard for me to meet my calorie goal though steps and workouts.  I am looking forward warmer weather so I can begin my walks again!  I had a fitbit before, but I love that I can dress up my apple watch by adding a few pretties!

In addition to Pilates, I am also doing the 21 Day fix two days a week.   I know that it is meant to be done on a daily basis, but with busy schedules it is hard to coordinate.  There are a group of girls I work with that meet two days a week to workout!  I love having my Vera Bradley yoga mat for both workouts!  It gives me something pretty to look at while I am dying from being out of shape.

The Lighten Up Gym Bag in Havana Rose is the perfect bag for carting my gym clothes to school!  I love that there is an extra pocket for my shoes so they do not get my clothes dirty!  The size is perfect even for a weekend bag!  The Lots of Love Cosmetic Case from Vera Bradley works great for carrying all my personal items.  I also use it to keep my accessories together when I change clothes.  To read more about the Liuid shoes and Project 375 read about it here.

I have been focusing on my health goal for a month now.  You can read more about my original goals here.    I lost a pound and gained half of it back.  It has been frustrating!  Last week I found it hard to get my workouts in.  I traveled for work, and hubby was out-of-town for his work.  I wanted to give up and not worry about eating healthy and not worry about working out.  I decided that after 3 weeks I cannot give up!  I am pushing on and thankfully I have a great group of girls that I work out with.  They make it fun and help me push myself when I want to give up.

Today we started over on the 21 Day Fix.  The first time I did Day 1 of cardio I couldn’t walk for about 5 days afterwards.  My legs were so shaky that night walking out to my car I thought I wasn’t going to make it.  Tonight, I felt so much stronger and the workout was easier than the first time!  Which means I am getting stronger!  This is what I am focusing on to keep me motivated!  Along with cute outfits of course!   What helps keep you motivated?

LIUID Shoes: Cute and a Good Cause

I was excited when LIUID Shoes contacted me to collaborate on their 375 project.  There is nothing that I love more than when fashion helps supports a cause.  They are currently collaborating with NY Jets Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall and his non-profit organization, PROJECT 375. Together they have designed a shoe that helps shed light on the stigma surrounding mental health.

 

 

When designing these shoes so many of the aesthetics were taken into consideration.  The bright green color that is featured in both men’s and women’s shoes is the official color of the PROJECT 375 campaign.  The small speckles represents that at first glance everyone looks fine, but under the surface more than 100 million Americans are struggling with a mental illness.  With each pair of shoes that are purchased LIUID Shoes will donate $18 dollars towards PROJECT 375

No matter what you are dealing with remember that there is help.  When all else fails believe in yourself and know that there is someone else out there who knows what you are feeling, and brighter days are to come.

3 Goals for the Year

I’ve debated for a while on whether or not I wanted to write this post, but I decided that I might as well go for it.  Like most other people, I decided I wanted to set some goals for myself for the New Year.  I hate talking about New Year’s Resolutions, because I always end up breaking them.   This year, I decided that I wanted to set goals rather than resolutions.

Time to get real.  Since this time last year, I have steadily gained weight, and I haven’t been happy with how my clothes have been fitting.  I did a lot of complaining, but didn’t do anything that would help the long term.  I decided that I need to make a conscious effort to improve my heath. I am almost 36 years old and I know that staying active will only get harder the older I get.  Due to this, I decided that I needed to set a few goals.

 

Goal 1:  To be more active

I go through active spurts.  When I wore my fitbit I noticed I was more active and pushed myself to move more.  I have gone through to many fitbits so I decided to try the apple watch.  I love that the apple watch takes into consideration activity level for calories burned not just steps.   I also decided to re-enroll in a local pilates class that I started this past week.  I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the class.  It’s perfect especially since I get to do it with a close friend!  Another step towards being more active is that a few ladies at work and I have set days to work out after school.  We are doing the 21 Day Fix workout which is only 30 minutes, and I can get the boys picked up on time.  Of course, cute workout clothes and accessories definitely help with motivation.

Goal 2:  To be more present

As a mom of boys, I at times struggle to want to always participate in the activities that they want to do.  It is very easy to put housework and social media in front of them.  This year I am putting them first.  I have turned notifications off on my phone so I am not constantly checking in.  I have also started a quick clean when we first get home. This helps us stay on top of the daily cleaning and gives me more time in the evening.  This week we even played a game of basketball.  I was reminded how awful I am!

Goal 3:  To try new foods

I enjoy cooking, but I seem to get into a rut with the food that I cook.  There are so many recipes on Facebook and Pinterest I have seen that look delicious.  My goal is to try at least 1 new recipe every 2-3 weeks.  Recently, I tried spaghetti squash instead of spaghetti and it is now my go to recipe!  I also made this past week fried cauliflower.  Surprising, I really liked it!  There wasn’t much of a difference in taste!  Would you like me to share my experiences with different recipes?

 

All of this being said I am sure I will struggle with these goals.  They are just goals though, and if I can stick with them I know that it will make me a happier and healthier person!    What are your goals for this year?
