Last Minute Outfit Inspiration

This morning, I woke up early and couldn’t fall back asleep.  Since the rest of the family is still sound asleep, I decided to write a last-minute post.  The last few weeks I have been bringing in holiday style into my daily looks.  I have loved playing with the colors red and green!  Here are a few of my looks over the last few weeks.  If you are looking for some outfit inspiration for the next few days hopefully you can find some here!  There are may different looks from casual to dressy.  Most of our gatherings are casual so I will be leaning more towards those looks.  It is always fun though to dress up a casual look with a little bling!  What will you be wearing for your holiday gatherings?

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Work Wear Wednesday 11.18.17: Buffalo Plaid

This holiday season I seem to be drawn to red and green!  I have looked back at my Instagram feed over the last few weeks, and it is all I have worn!  I think this is the first holiday season I have worn these colors as much as I have!  In keeping with my red theme I decided to see if I could style this buffalo plaid dress from Shein for work.  Nothing says Christmas more as buffalo plaid!

I absolutely fell in love with this dress when I received it from Shein.  The fabric is thicker which is perfect for our cold winter.  The quality of this dress is really well done, and the fit is perfect.  For reference I got a medium in this dress.

To mix up the look of this dress I decided to try some pattern mixing.  I could have gone with my normal mix of leopard and buffalo plaid, but I decided to try mixing two different plaids.  I liked how the larger window pane pattern mixed with the smaller buffalo plaid.  What made this work was the difference size of patterns and colors.  The black tied the whole look together, but the white helped make it stand out.  I cut this scarf in half to make sure that it did not feel so overwhelming.  You can read here how I cut my blanket scarves.

To finish off this look, I wanted to wear these fun boots by Same Edelman that I got last year.  I love the fun pattern on the back along with the studded design.  It helps create an edge to any look, plus they always get me so many compliments!  I have also received a few snide remarks if they are used as a weapon.

I definitely want to try this dress again with leopard pieces since it is such an easy way to pattern mix.  How would you wear this dress?

An Evening of Fashion

A  few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to model for Outer Grace Boutique.  Two EE’s Winery was having a Little Black Dress Event showcasing various local boutiques. If you are local, you need to check out this even next year!  It was so much fun seeing everyone show up in their fanciest black dresses.  So many women were dressed to the nines and looked absolutely amazing!

I was able to choose my look for the evening, and I wanted to play with patterns.  As you all know that I love mixing patterns, and I wanted to showcase this during the evening.  I found this perfect striped top that when I pulled down the sleeves have thumb holes.  I knew this piece would be worn a ton layered with other pieces.  It was perfectly layered with this black floral kimono.  I loved the darker colors for winter and fall! I grabbed my leopard clutch from Simply 9 Designs to finish of this look.

To be honest, I was super nervous to participate in this event.  I didn’t want to be the older mom that was trying to be trendy.  Once I got to the event though, and met the other girls I was instantly at ease.  The entire evening was so much fun!  I got to meet some new ladies and step outside of my comfort zone.  At the end of the night, I was proud of myself for trying something new!  I have to thank Sarah from Outer Grace for the opportunity.  Sarah is one of the sweetest people I have met and I am so happy that I get to help support her boutique.

Current Happenings

Life this fall has been crazier than ever!  As you know, we just returned from a family vacation to Disney.  It was nice getting away.  Life though like I said has been crazy!  Things at work have been extremely busy.  We have a handful of new teachers that are keeping me busy.  I love the fact that I am able to help so many people in my position.  The boys have been playing soccer and the season is coming to a close.  Next weekend is tournament which is always a fun day.  I am hoping for good weather.  This week we are overlapping soccer and basketball which should be interesting!  We have also been car shopping in between all of the craziness.  I am looking forward to ending that process soon!

Our weather in Indiana has taken a drastic turn.  Our warmer days have turned extremely cool and rainy.  I love the cooler temps, but I could do without the rain.  I love the fact that I am able to pull out my fall clothes though.  I think this is my favorite season when it comes to clothes!  There is nothing better than layers in my opinion.

The Outfit

This look brings in so many of my favorite styles that it makes me happy!  Is there anything better than plaid, florals, and ruffled sleeves?  This top from Shein had so many of my favorite styles that I couldn’t wait to give it a try.  When wearing a boxier top I like to pair it with a slimmer silhouette on the bottom.  These jeans from Loft are some of the best!  If you are a curvier gal like myself you need to try these!  They are absolutely the best fit, and I love how they hit right at the end of my leg.

When I received this top I was really excited about the quality.  I ordered a size large, but I could have gone with my normal size medium.  The material is a little heavier which is perfect for perfect fall days.  The embroidery is really well done too!  As for wrinkles, it was super easy to remove.  The best part was that new ones were not added throughout the day.  These pictures were taken after a day of working!  This top also comes in a basic white and blue stripes if plaid isn’t for you!

Since there was so much going on with this top I decided to keep my accessories simple.  This pendent necklace from Shop Sarahndipity is simple enough that it helped enhance this top verses making the look to busy.  When looking for accessories for patterned tops simpler is always better.

To keep with the easy and simple look I added my favorite bracelet stack from Centered Jewelry. This is a local company that designs the best bracelets.  There are so many gorgeous stacks that you can create by just a few pieces.  If you are local and looking to see pieces in person head to Outer Grace Boutique or Lane 201!  If you aren’t local you can also find her on Etsy.  I wear these bracelets at least once a week, because I love them so much.

Double Stripes

At the end of each season I tend to get bored with my clothes and I become uninspired.  I know we still have two months left of summer, but I am starting to tire of my daily casual style.  I am happy that school is starting soon to expand my wardrobe a bit.  When I get bored with my current clothes I try to mix things up and try to get creative.

To add some variation to my daily looks I have been trying to add a little pattern mixing.  In the fall I love to pattern mix and find that is easy.  Summer styles I find a little harder to bring in pattern mixing.  I think this is due to not wanting to layer because of high temperatures.  Plus the items are smaller!

What makes these double stripes work is the color palette and the different sized stripes.  When mixing like prints there needs to be a definite size difference in the patterns.  The fact that this tank has wide bands of colors versus the smaller stripes of the shorts makes it not look to busy.  There is a fine line when mixing prints, and I find that I walk that line like a tight rope!  How do you pattern mix?
