Happy New Years! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and Santa brought you everything you wanted under your tree. Hubby was very good to me this year, and spoiled me beyond what I deserved. As I was putting away all of my lovely items I yet again came to the conclusion that I have too many clothes. My closet is bursting at the seams and I cannot seem to fit anything else. Every time I do a closet clean out or switch for the seasons I tell myself I am going to do better with my shopping. I do really well for the first month or so, and then I fall of the bandwagon.
I’ve decided to try something new this year and to Love My Closet Again. I want to get my closet down to the pieces that I absolutely love and cannot live without. I decided that I am going to choose 10 items that I will wear over the next month. If I don’t wear the item or don’t love it when I wear it I am going to let it go. Kinda like the HGTV show Love it or List it, but with clothes. I will decided if I love the item or if it goes.
If I decide that I love all ten items for that month then I am not allowed to shop. If I decide that I don’t love an item and let it go, then I can shop that next month. The caveat though is that I can only purchase the number of items that I get rid of. I am hoping this helps curb my shopping since I feel it has gotten a bit out of control. Just because I get rid of items though doesn’t mean I am going to run out and buy something new. I am going to try to limit my shopping to pieces that are a must and will help enhance my closet.
In choosing the ten pieces I went with different types of clothing. I decided to go with four sweaters since it was winter, a top, two dresses, one tunic, and two skirts. All of these items I got last year, and have only worn once. I wanted to decide if they deserved a permanent spot in my closet.
I would love if you all joined in with me to start loving your closet again! Share on IGusing #lovingmyclosetagain or share on my Facebook page what items you are working with this month. I would also love to see how you style pieces so make sure to use the tag above or again share on my Facebook page. Hopefully together we will start to love our closets again! What are your ten pieces for the month of January?
This morning, I woke up early and couldn’t fall back asleep. Since the rest of the family is still sound asleep, I decided to write a last-minute post. The last few weeks I have been bringing in holiday style into my daily looks. I have loved playing with the colors red and green! Here are a few of my looks over the last few weeks. If you are looking for some outfit inspiration for the next few days hopefully you can find some here! There are may different looks from casual to dressy. Most of our gatherings are casual so I will be leaning more towards those looks. It is always fun though to dress up a casual look with a little bling! What will you be wearing for your holiday gatherings?
As a teacher school spirit wear is an integral part of our district dress code. On Fridays, we are able to wear jeans if we wear it with a school top. As a lover of jeans, I usually look forward to these casual Fridays. I dislike though always having to wear a tee. I have set out find a formula that helps make any tee a little more fashionable. I have found three pieces that can add a little extra pizzaz to any t-shirt in your closet.

Add a Cute Jacket or Cardigan
This is pretty much my solution to dressing up just about anything. I don’t know what it is about a cardigan that makes any top in my closet look dressier. Our school colors are purple and gold so this mustard colored cardigan from Outer Grace Boutique is the perfect addition to my closet! It pairs perfectly with most of my school tees. Plus it is the perfect length for dresses and tunics too!
Add a Statement Necklace
Adding a little sparkle to any tee makes it feel a little more special. This can be a statement necklace with crystal stones or a simple piece that makes a statement all on its own. I find that adding accessories can dress up any look and makes me feel a little more put together.
Add a fun pair of shoes
Shoes can add another layer of style to any tee. Depending on what style you choose will dictate how dressy your tee looks. A fun pair of slip on sneakers will be more casual or to dress up a tee add a pair of booties or cute flats! If you are a teacher you need to check out MsHeadofClass2 on Etsy and her adorable pencil shoes! They are incredibly comfortable too!
I am loving the athleisure trend lately! Athleisure is a trend where workout clothing is worn in other settings than the gym. This can include leggings, yoga pants, zip front hooded sweatshirts, and tennis shoes dressed up and styled fashionably. The idea of being comfortable yet stylish is key in my busy life! The fact that you can pair athletic shoes with just about anything makes me happy! As a teacher, I am constantly on my feet and there are some days I know that will be crazier than others!
These Nike TR6 shoes have become some of my favorite pairs! I bought them last October for a trip to Disney. I wanted something that was versatile and that I could dress up a little depending on the outfit and what we were doing. They are so comfortable I wanted to try and to wear them for school on a non jeans day. Here are three tips on how to wear a pair of athletic shoes at the office!

1. Cotton Dress
Cotton dresses are extremely comfortable and in the right style can be dressed up or down depending on the look your going for. This dress from JCrew factory has become a favorite. The fit is absolutely perfect. For reference I am wearing a size small. I loved this one so much at $24.00, I bought it in two other colors.
2. Cute Jacket!
A bomber jacket can dress up any look. I have been looking for one for quite awhile and when I found this one at Loft I fell in love. I loved the silky material and they colors of the floral print. They were perfect to transition into fall!
Adding accessories to any look gives it a more polished feel. They don’t have to be over the top pieces either. A simple pendent necklace and earrings give this look a finished appeal.
Have you tried the athleisure trend yet? If so what is your favorite styles to wear?
I am joining up with four of my favorite Instagram ladies! I am so incredibly lucky to call these women friends! I cannot express I love our daily chats, and the continuous humor. We are bringing you our take on Americana for the 4th of July. You can read my previous posts on 4th of July fashion here and here. Back in January, we also showed how we styled our athletic shoes. I love how unique each of our styles are, and how they are easily attainable!
As soon as I found these adorable red lace up shoes, I knew I wanted to use them for a post on Americana looks. When I found this romper at Loft I knew that it was a perfect outfit in the making! I love the simple lines of this romper, along with the ruffle detailing. The material is lightweight which is perfect for the 4th of July in Indiana! Since I know we will be outside, I wanted to keep my jewelry simple.
The 4th of July usually coincides with the beginning of monsoon season in Arizona, so light, loose clothing is where it’s at. This Knox Rose top is perfect for hot days and warm nights! I prefer to go a little more low-key than full-on “Olympic athlete” to celebrate Independence Day, so just a few touches of red round out my theme.
Hi ladies! Thanks to Mandy for having us back again :). For a fun 4th of July look, I’ve paired 2 on-trend items in holiday colors – white cropped, wide legged trousers (in cool linen), and an off-the-shoulder red and white stripe top (just $18 on Amazon). I finished the look with navy and white stripe d’orsay flats. This look would be perfect of an evening barbeque when temps begin to cool off. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
I love being patriotic with my outfits. A fun pair of red, white & blue pants with bold jewelry makes it simple. I chose this white peplum because I can easily wash out any stains😂 And the peplum gives me room for extra ice cream😄. I may switch to sandals on the fourth, but I like the look with these pointy toes for now.
You don’t have to wear a flag t-shirt or even Stars and Stripes to be patriotic! Sometimes it’s fun to wear a not so obvious red, white and blue look! I thought it would be fun to go with florals and ruffles in this Cabi top. Paired with a Target white denim skirt and a blue bag it makes a great patriotic look! I did a subtle pattern mix with these striped shoes for a little added fun. A bonus is that this is a super cool outfit for the super hot Texas summer!
