School Spirit Wear

As a teacher school spirit wear is an integral part of our district dress code.  On Fridays, we are able to wear jeans if we wear it with a school top.   As a lover of jeans, I usually look forward to these casual Fridays.   I dislike though always having to wear a tee.  I have set out find a formula that helps make any tee a little more fashionable.  I have found three pieces that can add a little extra pizzaz to any t-shirt in your closet.

Add a Cute Jacket or Cardigan

This is pretty much my solution to dressing up just about anything.  I don’t know what it is about a cardigan that makes any top in my closet look dressier.  Our school colors are purple and gold so this mustard colored cardigan from Outer Grace Boutique is the perfect addition to my closet!  It pairs perfectly with most of my school tees.  Plus it is the perfect length for dresses and tunics too!

Add a Statement Necklace

Adding a little sparkle to any tee makes it feel a little more special.  This can be a statement necklace with crystal stones or a simple piece that makes a statement all on its own.  I find that adding accessories can dress up any look and makes me feel a little more put together.

Add a fun pair of shoes

Shoes can add another layer of style to any tee.  Depending on what style you choose will dictate how dressy your tee looks.  A fun pair of slip on sneakers will be more casual or to dress up a tee add a pair of booties or cute flats!  If you are a teacher you need to check out MsHeadofClass2 on Etsy and her adorable pencil shoes!  They are incredibly comfortable too!

How to Wear Athletic Shoes for the Office

I am loving the athleisure trend lately!  Athleisure is a trend where workout clothing is worn in other settings than the gym.  This can include leggings, yoga pants, zip front hooded sweatshirts, and tennis shoes dressed up and styled fashionably.   The idea of being comfortable yet stylish is key in my busy life!  The fact that you can pair athletic shoes with just about anything makes me happy!  As a teacher, I am constantly on my feet and there are some days I know that will be crazier than others!

These Nike TR6 shoes have become some of my favorite pairs!  I bought them last October for a trip to Disney.  I wanted something that was versatile and that I could dress up a little depending on the outfit and what we were doing.  They are so comfortable I wanted to try and to wear them for school on a non jeans day.  Here are three tips on how to wear a pair of athletic shoes at the office!

1.  Cotton Dress

Cotton dresses are extremely comfortable and in the right style can be dressed up or down depending on the look your going for.  This dress from JCrew factory has become a favorite.  The fit is absolutely perfect.  For reference I am wearing a size small.  I loved this one so much at $24.00, I bought it in two other colors.

2.  Cute Jacket!

A bomber jacket can dress up any look.  I have been looking for one for quite awhile and when I found this one at Loft I fell in love.  I loved the silky material and they colors of the floral print.  They were perfect to transition into fall!

3.  Jewelry

Adding accessories to any look gives it a more polished feel.  They don’t have to be over the top pieces either.  A simple pendent necklace and earrings give this look a finished appeal.

Have you tried the athleisure trend yet?  If so what is your favorite styles to wear?

How to dress Americana in Unexpected Ways

I am joining up with four of my favorite Instagram ladies!  I am so incredibly lucky to call these women friends!  I cannot express I love our daily chats, and the continuous humor. We are bringing you our take on Americana for the 4th of July.  You can read my previous posts on 4th of July fashion here and here.  Back in January, we also showed how we styled our athletic shoes.  I love how unique each of our styles are, and how they are easily attainable!

As soon as I found these adorable red lace up shoes, I knew I wanted to use them for a post on Americana looks.  When I found this romper at Loft I knew that it was a perfect outfit in the making!  I love the simple lines of this romper, along with the ruffle detailing.  The material is lightweight which is perfect for the 4th of July in Indiana!  Since I know we will be outside, I wanted to keep my jewelry simple.

The 4th of July usually coincides with the beginning of monsoon season in Arizona, so light, loose clothing is where it’s at. This Knox Rose top is perfect for hot days and warm nights! I prefer to go a little more low-key than full-on “Olympic athlete” 😉 to celebrate Independence Day, so just a few touches of red round out my theme.

Hi ladies! Thanks to Mandy for having us back again :). For a fun 4th of July look, I’ve paired 2 on-trend items in holiday colors – white cropped, wide legged trousers (in cool linen), and an off-the-shoulder red and white stripe top (just $18 on Amazon). I finished the look with navy and white stripe d’orsay flats. This look would be perfect of an evening barbeque when temps begin to cool off. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

I love being patriotic with my outfits. A fun pair of red, white & blue pants with bold jewelry makes it simple. I chose this white peplum because I can easily wash out any stains😂 And the peplum gives me room for extra ice cream😄. I may switch to sandals on the fourth, but I like the look with these pointy toes for now.

You don’t have to wear a flag t-shirt or even Stars and Stripes to be patriotic!  Sometimes it’s fun to wear a not so obvious red, white and blue look!  I thought it would be fun to go with florals and ruffles in this Cabi top.  Paired with a Target white denim skirt and a blue bag it makes a great patriotic look! I did a subtle pattern mix with these striped shoes for a little added fun.  A bonus is that this is a super cool outfit for the super hot Texas summer!

How to Style a Shirt Dress in an Unexpected Way

This week has been extremely busy with something every night!  Baseball and soccer have started for my oldest this week on top of a school concert and parent teacher conferences.  In addition to all of that, I have been packing for spring break top in Florida with my family.  I cannot wait for a whole week on the beach and sunny weather.  Be on the look out for some guest blog posts while I am gone this next week!  On top of that I get to see some of my favorite Instagram ladies before I leave for a girl’s night!

Every now and again, I love to play with pieces in my closet and style them in unexpected ways. This look from a few weeks ago was totally not planned, but I loved the outcome! For the wear what where style challenge for March the daily prompt was Moulin Rouge and I knew I wanted to add a touch of red to my outfit.  I don’t have a ton of red in my closet so I decided to get creative!

I had this dress from Nordstrom’s that I had only worn once, because it is hard to sit on the floor while wearing it at school.  I decided to see how it looked worn as a cardigan instead.  I instantly fell in love with the look.  The length is perfect with a dress underneath and adds visual interest.

The Carson Saddle Bag from Vera Bradley was the perfect addition to add a pop of color.  I love the way that red and turquoise pair together.  The colors are so bright yet contrast nicely together.   I am thinking I may try this open front dress with a tee and distressed jeans soon.  How do you wear pieces in unexpected ways?

How to Wear: Athletic Shoes

I wanted to start a new series with some of my favorite Instagram ladies!  I am thinking this would be a fun monthly edition!  Let me know if you enjoyed this and would like to see more!

Athletic shoes has been my favorite fashion trend!  As a momma of two active boys, I have loved being able to figure out new ways to wear these wondrous shoes! I love how comfy has become stylish!  I have linked up with some of my Instagram besties to show you how we style these closet staples!  Which way is your favorite?

I love taking pieces and tops that are comfy and classic and dressing them down with a pair of athletic shoes.  My two favorite pairs right now are my Nikes and New Balance shoes.  Both pairs work in so many ways in my closet and have been in constant rotation!

Amanda from @abc_mom_style and ABC Mom Style:  These little white and rose gold Adidas are so fun!  The gold stripes add such a great feminine touch and I just love how they go well with anything!  Of course, they are perfect with a causal look – oversized sweater and distressed boyfriend jeans.  But don’t be afraid to pair them with something more unexpected.  They are adorable with a nicer layered look – plaid, cute sweater, black skinnies and some bling.  It’s been a while since it was “acceptable” to wear sneakers with anything other than athletic wear.  Take advantage of this trend and truly be comfortable and cute at the same time!

Ann from @teacherannie:  I love my Adidas, and I wear them all the time! They are the perfect shoes to make a dress more casual or edgy, and they are perfect with leggings and skinnies. Here, my favorite kicks paired with a sundress ( last year from Who What Wear for Target) and an old bomber jacket from Old Navy, I’m comfortable for a day of shopping and lunch, but I could quickly change out the shoes and topper, and I’m ready for a date with my husband!

My favorite look is to pair my Adidas with leather leggings, a graphic tee, and this slouchy velvet blazer. It’s great for day or night, it’s supremely comfortable, and I feel great in it!

I reach for these shoes more than any others in my closet.

Dinah from @stylishprofessor:  What an honor to share this post with my Instagram besties! Thanks so much to Mandy for inviting us today.  The main athletic shoe I wear are my Converse. I have them in 4 different colors, and LOVE that they can be dressed up or down. These black converse, together with the moto jacket and tee, keep the tulle skirt from being overly frilly.

I also have a pair of navy and mint Reeboks that I definitely don’t use for running 🙂 They pair really well with a gingham shirt, cardi, and jeans. I hope you find some fun ways to style your athletic shoes!

Apryl from @prylb: I’m not a “serous” walker, but my dog is serious about getting her daily walk. So I put on comfy shoes every evening & we strut the neighborhood. Luckily, having comfort doesn’t mean I can’t have a fun print.  And running to the store after a walk doesn’t require a change of shoes😊
