Happy New Years! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and Santa brought you everything you wanted under your tree. Hubby was very good to me this year, and spoiled me beyond what I deserved. As I was putting away all of my lovely items I yet again came to the conclusion that I have too many clothes. My closet is bursting at the seams and I cannot seem to fit anything else. Every time I do a closet clean out or switch for the seasons I tell myself I am going to do better with my shopping. I do really well for the first month or so, and then I fall of the bandwagon.
I’ve decided to try something new this year and to Love My Closet Again. I want to get my closet down to the pieces that I absolutely love and cannot live without. I decided that I am going to choose 10 items that I will wear over the next month. If I don’t wear the item or don’t love it when I wear it I am going to let it go. Kinda like the HGTV show Love it or List it, but with clothes. I will decided if I love the item or if it goes.
If I decide that I love all ten items for that month then I am not allowed to shop. If I decide that I don’t love an item and let it go, then I can shop that next month. The caveat though is that I can only purchase the number of items that I get rid of. I am hoping this helps curb my shopping since I feel it has gotten a bit out of control. Just because I get rid of items though doesn’t mean I am going to run out and buy something new. I am going to try to limit my shopping to pieces that are a must and will help enhance my closet.
In choosing the ten pieces I went with different types of clothing. I decided to go with four sweaters since it was winter, a top, two dresses, one tunic, and two skirts. All of these items I got last year, and have only worn once. I wanted to decide if they deserved a permanent spot in my closet.
I would love if you all joined in with me to start loving your closet again! Share on IGusing #lovingmyclosetagain or share on my Facebook page what items you are working with this month. I would also love to see how you style pieces so make sure to use the tag above or again share on my Facebook page. Hopefully together we will start to love our closets again! What are your ten pieces for the month of January?
This morning, I woke up early and couldn’t fall back asleep. Since the rest of the family is still sound asleep, I decided to write a last-minute post. The last few weeks I have been bringing in holiday style into my daily looks. I have loved playing with the colors red and green! Here are a few of my looks over the last few weeks. If you are looking for some outfit inspiration for the next few days hopefully you can find some here! There are may different looks from casual to dressy. Most of our gatherings are casual so I will be leaning more towards those looks. It is always fun though to dress up a casual look with a little bling! What will you be wearing for your holiday gatherings?
This holiday season I seem to be drawn to red and green! I have looked back at my Instagram feedover the last few weeks, and it is all I have worn! I think this is the first holiday season I have worn these colors as much as I have! In keeping with my red theme I decided to see if I could style this buffalo plaid dress from Shein for work. Nothing says Christmas more as buffalo plaid!

I absolutely fell in love with this dress when I received it from Shein. The fabric is thicker which is perfect for our cold winter. The quality of this dress is really well done, and the fit is perfect. For reference I got a medium in this dress.
To mix up the look of this dress I decided to try some pattern mixing. I could have gone with my normal mix of leopard and buffalo plaid, but I decided to try mixing two different plaids. I liked how the larger window pane pattern mixed with the smaller buffalo plaid. What made this work was the difference size of patterns and colors. The black tied the whole look together, but the white helped make it stand out. I cut this scarf in half to make sure that it did not feel so overwhelming. You can read here how I cut my blanket scarves.
To finish off this look, I wanted to wear these fun boots by Same Edelman that I got last year. I love the fun pattern on the back along with the studded design. It helps create an edge to any look, plus they always get me so many compliments! I have also received a few snide remarks if they are used as a weapon.
I definitely want to try this dress again with leopard pieces since it is such an easy way to pattern mix. How would you wear this dress?
There is something about a gold sequined skirt that screams holidays to me! I have been on the search for the perfect one for the last few years, but haven’t been able to find one. I order a sequined pencil skirt from Loft earlier this year, but unfortunately my body shape is not meant for pencil skirts. I have a little too much in the hip section to be able to pull it off. I ordered this olive-green one and loved the color!

One evening I saw that Ann Taylor had half off and free shipping I decided to take a look around online. Thankfully I did, because I found this gorgeous sequined skirt. I don’t normally shop online at Ann Taylor since the prices are a bit above what I normally spend, but this was too good to pass up.
I also liked that this skirt was made in a regular and curvy fit. I decided to go with the curvy fit, because of my hips in a size 4. After trying the size 4 I think I could have sized down to a 2 in this fit. This skirt has a zipper in the back, but has a bit of an elastic waist that has some give. In the regular cut a 4, I am sure would have been perfect.
I had so many ideas on how I wanted to style this skirt, that I had troubles choosing which look I wanted to start wear first. With the holidays though I decided to wear buffalo plaid first. I loved how this look turned out! The buffalo plaid helped make this look a little more casual. As a teacher I can get away with looks like this at work. The kids love when you wear fun pieces like this skirt. One of my favorite part of my days is lunch duty and the kids tell me what they love about my outfit. It is fun to talk fashion with all the mini fashionistas!
For Christmas Eve dinner I am going to try to style this skirt with this lace top from Target. I think the high waist of this skirt will work with the crop top look. I haven’t tried it together to see if it works, but if not I will have plenty of other options. How would you style this skirt?
Anyone else surprised by how much they love florals? Up until the last year or so I was never a huge fan of florals. Once though I found ones I liked there was no turning back. I have florals for summer, spring, and fall. When I saw this dress from Outer Grace Boutique I fell in love with the winter colors that this dress offered. The print is gorgeous and not over powering. My favorite part about this dress is the pockets! Any dress or skirt that has pockets I have a hard time resisting.

As with most dresses that I wear I added a long cardigan. This one is from Outer Grace too. They have the best selection of cardigans of all lengths, colors, and patterns. This one is a high low style that is a gorgeous burgundy color. I love these cardigans so much I have one in mustard yellow and red also. You can see how I styled them on Instagram!
For work I tend to gravitative towards dresses and leggings. They are so comfortable and still look great. I find dresses even more comfortable than jeans. I know some people absolutely love jeans and would rather wear them than anything else. Ever since we have been able to only wear jeans with spirit wear at work I find myself only wearing jeans on the weekends. A lot of times on Fridays I find myself dressing up instead of dressing down. Does anyone else feel this way?
