Adding Some Color to My Stripes

I am a lover of all things stripes!  As I looked into my closet though I realized that my stripes are mainly black or navy!  I have no colored stripes!  I set out to add some more color into my closet!

Burgundy was an easy choice for me to begin adding colored stripes into my closet!  The Kacie Striped Top from Brickyard Buffalo is the perfect staple piece!  The fit is perfect and can be dressed up or down.  I went semi-casual with this look for casual Friday at work.  The elbow patches also adds such a fun touch!

If you haven’t heard about Brickyard Buffalo yet you need to check out their site!  They are an online pop-up market that showcases individual companies and their freshest items. The items are offered at a deeply discounted price for just a limited time!  This top is currently over a 60% savings at $12.99 and only available for 8 more days.  The fabric is super soft and the top is well made!

When I decided to style this look I decided to go with my favorite layering pieces.  My sparkly necklace, a vest, and of course my over the knee boots.  This is my fall and winter uniform, and I love the way that the burgundy stripes help add a little color to my stripe collection!

Monochromatic Grey to Match the Weather

Before Instagram, I had no I idea what monochromatic was.  It was not a word that was in my everyday vocabulary.  Thankfully my fashionista friends quickly introduced me to monochromatic looks!  I don’t tend to wear monochrome looks very often, but when I do I love the outcome!

This monochromatic look was inspired by the weather we have been having in Indiana.  I normally gravitate to bright colors when i am feeling down, but I decided to give this a try!  I loved the outcome!  This look was comfortable yet stylish!  Perfect for a day at work!  The tassel wrap sweater from Haute and Co.  is definitely a staple piece that can be worn in so many ways!  Check out how I wore athletic shoes with this top here.

I found these booties right before Christmas and decided to pass on them because of the price tag.  After I left the mall I decided to take a look online to see if I could find them cheaper!  So glad that I waited to buy these beauties!  These Circus by Sam Edelman booties were a steal on Amazon for only $40!  They are extremely comfortable and I cannot tell you the number of compliments I have received!

As with any outfit it is always about the accessories.  I decided to keep my accessories simple by layering some new pieces.  The longer necklace and bracelet is from Wink of Pink.  The bracelet has been on constant repeat this week!  I layered my necklace with some fun chokers from Ettika to keep the edgy look from these booties.  Have your tried a monochromatic look yet?

One of my favorite pieces to wear is a jacket for layering!  I love being able to wear layers so I am comfortable in any type of weather.  This jacket from Shein is perfect for exactly that!  It was a little lighter than I expected, but I think it will be really good for layering even with sweaters!
I loved the casual feel with a simple white tee.  I added some contrast with this gorgeous Kendra Scott necklace, and these fun leopard booties from Gray Monroe!  This is the perfect look for running errands!  Comfortable yet still stylish!  How do you dress to be comfortable and stylish?

How to Wear: Athletic Shoes

I wanted to start a new series with some of my favorite Instagram ladies!  I am thinking this would be a fun monthly edition!  Let me know if you enjoyed this and would like to see more!

Athletic shoes has been my favorite fashion trend!  As a momma of two active boys, I have loved being able to figure out new ways to wear these wondrous shoes! I love how comfy has become stylish!  I have linked up with some of my Instagram besties to show you how we style these closet staples!  Which way is your favorite?

I love taking pieces and tops that are comfy and classic and dressing them down with a pair of athletic shoes.  My two favorite pairs right now are my Nikes and New Balance shoes.  Both pairs work in so many ways in my closet and have been in constant rotation!

Amanda from @abc_mom_style and ABC Mom Style:  These little white and rose gold Adidas are so fun!  The gold stripes add such a great feminine touch and I just love how they go well with anything!  Of course, they are perfect with a causal look – oversized sweater and distressed boyfriend jeans.  But don’t be afraid to pair them with something more unexpected.  They are adorable with a nicer layered look – plaid, cute sweater, black skinnies and some bling.  It’s been a while since it was “acceptable” to wear sneakers with anything other than athletic wear.  Take advantage of this trend and truly be comfortable and cute at the same time!

Ann from @teacherannie:  I love my Adidas, and I wear them all the time! They are the perfect shoes to make a dress more casual or edgy, and they are perfect with leggings and skinnies. Here, my favorite kicks paired with a sundress ( last year from Who What Wear for Target) and an old bomber jacket from Old Navy, I’m comfortable for a day of shopping and lunch, but I could quickly change out the shoes and topper, and I’m ready for a date with my husband!

My favorite look is to pair my Adidas with leather leggings, a graphic tee, and this slouchy velvet blazer. It’s great for day or night, it’s supremely comfortable, and I feel great in it!

I reach for these shoes more than any others in my closet.

Dinah from @stylishprofessor:  What an honor to share this post with my Instagram besties! Thanks so much to Mandy for inviting us today.  The main athletic shoe I wear are my Converse. I have them in 4 different colors, and LOVE that they can be dressed up or down. These black converse, together with the moto jacket and tee, keep the tulle skirt from being overly frilly.

I also have a pair of navy and mint Reeboks that I definitely don’t use for running 🙂 They pair really well with a gingham shirt, cardi, and jeans. I hope you find some fun ways to style your athletic shoes!

Apryl from @prylb: I’m not a “serous” walker, but my dog is serious about getting her daily walk. So I put on comfy shoes every evening & we strut the neighborhood. Luckily, having comfort doesn’t mean I can’t have a fun print.  And running to the store after a walk doesn’t require a change of shoes😊

Instagram Review: January 22, 2017

This week has been the longest shortest week ever!  It has been so dreary and rainy that I have seriously been feeling the winter blues.  Then today, I woke up and saw the sun shining!  It was amazing what a game changer that was!  I needed some vitamin D in my life, to help raise the winter blahs.  After today, the week doesn’t seem so bad!  Here is a look at this week’s look on Instagram.  What are you doing to get rid of the winter blues?
