Summer Trends: Straw Bags

One of my favorite summer trends has been the straw tote.  I am not sure if it is truly the idea of a straw tote or just this gorgeous one from Vera Bradley. The best part is it is currently on sale!   I got this tote in late March, and I have gotten so much use out of it!  It came with me on Spring in Florida.  It was perfect for the beach to carry all of my important items, and for evenings out!  Straw totes are not just vacations.  I have used it as my everyday bag at home too!  It has been the perfect accessory!

Matilda Jane is a name that is mainly associated with fun and whimsical clothing for young girls.  As a mom of boys I have not had much of a chance to explore the wonderful world of Matilda Jane.  I have loved their pieces for young girls and thanked god that he knew I would be poor if I had girls.

This past year I became aware that Matilda Jane is not just for kids.  They have a women’s line too!  I loved the fun prints, and the built-in pattern mixing that most pieces offer.  I wasn’t sure though that their style would fit mine.  I was super excited when Taylor a local Trunk Keeper contacted me and wanted to share some of the pieces that Matilda Jane offers.  I got to try on most of the spring pieces and I loved each and everyone!

Matilda Jane only puts out their lines twice year and it is slowly released over the following months to build on their collections.  At the end of the season (usually January and July) typically they host their End of Season Sale.  Matilda Jane is currently having their end of season sale with up to 40% off on a ton of women’s and girls’ pieces.

One of my favorite pieces was the Sunday Best Dress.  I loved the carefree and easy style that is perfect for twirling!  The print is what first caught my eye when looking through the pieces.  I loved the combination oranges, yellows, and pinks and how it created a feminine floral feel.  The prints are designed by an in house artist exclusively for Matilda Jane.

My youngest decided to jump in on the photo and I couldn’t help but add it!  He is always the first one to tell me how beautiful I look!

Another reason why I loved this dress was the style!  I loved the neck detail that is definitely in trend this summer season!  This dress can be worn with or without a belt depending on the silhouette that you want.  I loved it both ways!  I added turquoise accessories to continue the summer feel.  Since the dress and accessories were bold I went neutral with my shoe choice.  These have quickly become a favorite pair of mine!  They are comfortable and go with so many dresses and skirts.

I ended up ordering a few items Monday from Matilda Jane.  I couldn’t resist adding more to my closet.  Be on the look out this week for how I am styling all of my Matilda Jane pieces!  Let me know what you end up getting and which looks are your favorite!

In the summer, we spend a ton of our spare time at the pool.  We are very lucky that my parents have one and only live two houses away.  Every now and again we take a trip to our local pool so the kids can play on the slides and diving boards.  It never fails they are always quite a few friends there also!

I have a few pool day essentials that are a must!  One being a cover up.  I tend to buy dresses and use them for dual purposes.  This dress from Shein also acts as an adorable cover up!  I love the tie in the back along with the embroidery details on the front and hem.  I like for my cover ups to be able to be worn in public while running errands, not just at the pool! This one covers my swimsuit perfectly, and is long enough to cover all the important parts.

I also love wearing hats at the pool.  As I have gotten older, I have become more concerned with sun damage.  I like to wear a hat to help shade my face from the sun.  I also use an SPF 50 sunscreen.  Another essential for me as many of you know is sunglasses!  I have to make sure I am wearing some anytime I leave the house.  Any kind of bright sunlight hurts my eyes.  To help keep them protected these adorable Vera Bradley glasses are the perfect pair!

My last pool accessory is a cute swim bag.  This straw tote from Vera Bradley is the best!  The print is adorable, and the size is perfect.  It holds towels, sunscreen, and of course snacks perfectly.  It isn’t a pool day without these essentials.  What are your poolside essentials?

All Buttoned Up

We are a week into summer break, and I am loving every moment!  I have been catching up on housework and decluttering! It hasn’t been all work though.  On Monday, we went to the zoo with our cousins.  It was our first trip of the year!  We are very blessed to have an amazing children’s zoo.  It is always fun to go and see what changes have been made since the previous year.

One of my favorite summer time looks is a crisp button up with a pair of distressed denim shorts.  I was excited that the weather was going to be a bit cooler so I could wear this perfect button up from Shein.  When I ordered this top I sized up to a large so I could wear it with leggings or skinny jeans.  The top hits me mid-thigh when it is untucked.  You can see how I styled it with colored jeans here.

For me clothes have to be comfortable.  I know, I know I sound like a broken record.  I learned long ago, if what I am wearing is uncomfortable I am less productive.  This probably sounds odd I know, but uncomfortable shoe makes me want to sit.  While tight clothes make me self-conscious.  These Chucks were an easy choice for a trip to the zoo.  My boys practically run through the zoo, and this momma has to keep up!

When out with the boys, I like to make sure I have both hands free.  Hubby and I always said two was perfect for man-on-man defense.  Also, when I am out alone with them I have one hand for each.  As they have gotten older this has gotten to be less of an issue.  I still love bags that I don’t have to fuss with.  This Big Sky Backpack from Vera Bradley has become my go to mommy bag!  It holds plenty of snacks, and of course all of my necessities!

In the summer, I like to keep my accessories simple.  I like delicate pieces that can be worn alone or layered.  I have become obsessed with Sugar Fix earrings!  They make a statement, but are still simple enough to wear everyday!  My Vera Bradley sunglasses are a constant accessory.  I don’t leave the house without them!  How do you like to accessorize in the summer?

Ketchup and Mustard

Hello!  I can’t believe how long it has been since I have written a post!  In April, we went on spring bring to Florida.  Once we returned baseball started for both of my boys, and soccer for my oldest.  I have learned my lesson of doing two sports at a time!  Most weeks we have baseball every night, and our weekends have busy.  With the end of our school year this past Wednesday, I feel like I am finally able to breathe!  I feel like a huge weight has been lifted and I can finally get caught up!  Have you ever get like this?

With the holiday weekend, we decided to clean up our landscaping.  We spent Saturday laying mulch, planting flowers, and filling my raised garden with dirt.  The idea of having my own vegetable garden is exciting!  Hopefully, I don’t kill anything!

I’ve always shied away from yellow and red figuring it looked like ketchup and mustard.  With the anything goes with fashion lately I decided to give it a try this weekend for a family cookout.  I decided to try it with a just a subtle touch of yellow so it wasn’t such an overt statement.

This darling top from Old Navy is actually from the girls section.  So many of the girls I follow on Instagram have shared they get some of their clothes from the girls section.  When I saw this top I decided to give it a try.  I was surprised to find that the extra large fit great!  I had to unbutton the top button because of pulling, but other than that it fit great!  I also got it in pink!  Where do you find unexpected items?
