The Power of the Cardigan

The power of the cardigan is amazing.  They are perfect for all seasons and can make an outfit totally different.  It always amazes me how often I find myself grabbing for a cardigan.  When I look at the different areas of my closet, the biggest section of my closet is hands down cardigans.  They are a closet staple that I feel gets the most use for me.  In my mind you can never have to many!  This section is also the hardest for me to get rid of anything.  You never know when you need a certain color, length, or weight!

When shopping I love to find clothes that can pull double duty for me.  What I mean by that is clothes that can be worn to work and at home!  This dress from Gray Monroe fits this profile perfectly for me!  I love the fun and carefree print along with the flowy fit.  The best part about this dress is the fact that it has pockets!!!

While this dress is perfect for a summer day it is not perfect for school.  The spaghetti straps are just a bit to small to be work appropriate.  Here lies the power of a cardigan.  I love how just adding one pieces make it perfect for the work environment!  I could have added a plain black cardigan or a fun color, but I wanted to play around with some pattern mixing.  The monochromatic colors are perfect for tying the look together.  Since the cardigan is mainly black with this white stripes it helps to enhance this dress versus compete with it.

Unfortunately, this dress is sold out already.  When searching the website though I found so many dresses that can pull double duty just by throwing on a cardigan!  Here are some of my favorite styles!  You can shop all the cute styles here.  Which one is your favorite?

You know how I said last week I didn’t have any cold shoulder items.  Well as of this week this item #3!  Do you ever find yourself not sure about a trend, and then decide you love it and buy everything that you can? Well, that is me and I find myself doing it all the time!  I’ve decided that summer cold shoulder tops are now my favorite thing!  I am still not sure about wearing them in the winter though.

To say I am obsessed with florals and stripes is an understatement!  They are two of my favorite patterns and are the perfect patterns to pattern mix together.  I have a huge section of my closet dedicated to these two patterns.  This dreaming of floral top from Simple Addiction was a must have with new obsession with cold shoulder tops.  This top has so many perfect details.  From the criss cross top, the feminine cold shoulder, down to the flowiness at the bottom.

I have been looking for a striped cotton skirt for a while.  I found this one from Simple Addiction, and I love it!  For sizing purposes this is a medium.  I could have sized up to a large for a slouchier fit.  This one works perfectly though for a more polished look!  I decided to knot the top to give the silhouette of this top a more defined outline.  These two pieces I consider closet staples.  They can be worn with so many other looks, and into other seasons!

Since the humidity has been high in Indiana, I decided to keep my accessories simple.  I decided the colors in my bracelet stack from Centered Jewelry helped enhance the look versus make it even busier.  When pattern mixing, it is a delicate balance to make everything work.  I also added my Elisa Necklace that I won from Tiff and Nicole’s giveaway on Bright on a Budget and What Nicole Wore.  It is the perfect layering piece, but is also one of my favorites to wear on its own.

Simple Addiction is one of the first site’s I found after joining Instagram.  I loved their trendy, but reasonably priced items.  Everything I have ever ordered or received from them have been of the highest quality.  Currently Simple Addiction is having their Anniversary Sale.  There are so many fabulous items on sale and for great prices.  The sale is July 15-24.  You can also use code MANDY15 for an additional 15% off.  What are your favorite pieces?

Feminine Details

I have been secretly obsessing over this dress ever since I found it on Loft’s website.  I feel in love with the feminine details with the ruffled sleeves, and the faux wrap look.  I kept telling myself that I couldn’t justify this dress at $100.  The fact that it wasn’t school appropriate was the biggest road block in my mind.  Unfortunately, the cold shoulder aspect of this dress is not appropriate for school.

Then came the 4th of July sale.  I stopped in to see if there wasn’t anything I could live without.  Again, I found myself eyeing this dress and decided to try it on.  Secretly, I was hoping that I would hate the fit and I could move on.  Unfortunately, I fell even more in love with this dress.  I loved the fit and it made me feel girly!  After I left Loft, I called hubby and told him I bought a total frivolous dress and he needed to take me on a date!

Last Friday evening, my mom offered to watch the boys so we decided a night out was a must!  We went to dinner at my favorite Japanese Steakhouse.  We ate way to much so we decided to go walk at Jefferson Pointe, our local outdoor mall.  There was an outdoor concert so we got to enjoy some 80’s rock.  Hubby was in heaven!  I got so many compliments on this pretty dress it made it worth while.

I felt that this dress spoke for itself so I kept the accessories simple.  I went with my favorite Kendra Scott necklace that adjusts to the perfect length.  I then added Sugar Fix earrings to pull the look together.  I loved how it turned out and I felt great about myself.  What have you resisted buying only to give in and fall in love?

Girl’s Night Out

A few nights ago, I met up with some of my favorite ladies from work at a new restaurant in town.  It seems like it has been ages since I have had a girl’s night out!  With summer break, we tend to lose touch with the craziness.  I know with the boys’ schedules there hasn’t been much downtime.  I had a great time catching up with everyone.  It was an evening spent laughing and chatting.

MY LOOK

When deciding what to wear I knew that I want to wear jeans.  I typically get really cold when I go to restaurants so I decided to dress in layers.  I knew that I wanted to wear this kimono from Outer Grace Boutique that I picked up last week.  I loved the floral details and the slight ruffled bottom!  I was drawn to this kimono, because of the ruffles and the colors.  This will be a great piece that I can transition into the early fall.

I debated between a cream tank or this bright yellow.  I decided (with some help from friends) on the yellow.  I love the color yellow, and whenever I wear it I feel happy!   I also thought the yellow helped bring out some of the colors in the flowers.

I have been wanting to add turquoise to every look this summer.  I decided to add it to this look through my Vera Bradley  cross body.  I love the additional pop of color that this bag brings to so many of my looks.  Since I already had pops of color through my jewelry, top, and bag I wanted to keep my shoes neutrals.  The cognac color with the gold details of these sandals were the perfect pair for this look.

I kept my accessories simple and went with some of my favorite pieces.  This bracelet from Wink of Pink is one that I wear on a weekly basis. It is perfect for creating fun arm parties.  I decided to add my Kendra Scott bracelets for a finishing touch.  What are your favorite looks for a girl’s night out?

How to dress Americana in Unexpected Ways

I am joining up with four of my favorite Instagram ladies!  I am so incredibly lucky to call these women friends!  I cannot express I love our daily chats, and the continuous humor. We are bringing you our take on Americana for the 4th of July.  You can read my previous posts on 4th of July fashion here and here.  Back in January, we also showed how we styled our athletic shoes.  I love how unique each of our styles are, and how they are easily attainable!

As soon as I found these adorable red lace up shoes, I knew I wanted to use them for a post on Americana looks.  When I found this romper at Loft I knew that it was a perfect outfit in the making!  I love the simple lines of this romper, along with the ruffle detailing.  The material is lightweight which is perfect for the 4th of July in Indiana!  Since I know we will be outside, I wanted to keep my jewelry simple.

The 4th of July usually coincides with the beginning of monsoon season in Arizona, so light, loose clothing is where it’s at. This Knox Rose top is perfect for hot days and warm nights! I prefer to go a little more low-key than full-on “Olympic athlete” 😉 to celebrate Independence Day, so just a few touches of red round out my theme.

Hi ladies! Thanks to Mandy for having us back again :). For a fun 4th of July look, I’ve paired 2 on-trend items in holiday colors – white cropped, wide legged trousers (in cool linen), and an off-the-shoulder red and white stripe top (just $18 on Amazon). I finished the look with navy and white stripe d’orsay flats. This look would be perfect of an evening barbeque when temps begin to cool off. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

I love being patriotic with my outfits. A fun pair of red, white & blue pants with bold jewelry makes it simple. I chose this white peplum because I can easily wash out any stains😂 And the peplum gives me room for extra ice cream😄. I may switch to sandals on the fourth, but I like the look with these pointy toes for now.

You don’t have to wear a flag t-shirt or even Stars and Stripes to be patriotic!  Sometimes it’s fun to wear a not so obvious red, white and blue look!  I thought it would be fun to go with florals and ruffles in this Cabi top.  Paired with a Target white denim skirt and a blue bag it makes a great patriotic look! I did a subtle pattern mix with these striped shoes for a little added fun.  A bonus is that this is a super cool outfit for the super hot Texas summer!
