You know how I said last week I didn’t have any cold shoulder items.  Well as of this week this item #3!  Do you ever find yourself not sure about a trend, and then decide you love it and buy everything that you can? Well, that is me and I find myself doing it all the time!  I’ve decided that summer cold shoulder tops are now my favorite thing!  I am still not sure about wearing them in the winter though.

To say I am obsessed with florals and stripes is an understatement!  They are two of my favorite patterns and are the perfect patterns to pattern mix together.  I have a huge section of my closet dedicated to these two patterns.  This dreaming of floral top from Simple Addiction was a must have with new obsession with cold shoulder tops.  This top has so many perfect details.  From the criss cross top, the feminine cold shoulder, down to the flowiness at the bottom.

I have been looking for a striped cotton skirt for a while.  I found this one from Simple Addiction, and I love it!  For sizing purposes this is a medium.  I could have sized up to a large for a slouchier fit.  This one works perfectly though for a more polished look!  I decided to knot the top to give the silhouette of this top a more defined outline.  These two pieces I consider closet staples.  They can be worn with so many other looks, and into other seasons!

Since the humidity has been high in Indiana, I decided to keep my accessories simple.  I decided the colors in my bracelet stack from Centered Jewelry helped enhance the look versus make it even busier.  When pattern mixing, it is a delicate balance to make everything work.  I also added my Elisa Necklace that I won from Tiff and Nicole’s giveaway on Bright on a Budget and What Nicole Wore.  It is the perfect layering piece, but is also one of my favorites to wear on its own.

Simple Addiction is one of the first site’s I found after joining Instagram.  I loved their trendy, but reasonably priced items.  Everything I have ever ordered or received from them have been of the highest quality.  Currently Simple Addiction is having their Anniversary Sale.  There are so many fabulous items on sale and for great prices.  The sale is July 15-24.  You can also use code MANDY15 for an additional 15% off.  What are your favorite pieces?

How to Wear Red and Green

Red and green have always seemed like a fashion no to me, until Ugly Sweaters became a thing.  As much as I love a tacky sweater at Christmas time, I wanted to play around with these holiday color staples.   Pairing red and green together can feel like holiday overload, but when done with moderation can be done without looking like a Christmas card.

I’ve put together 4 red and green outfits that share a different tip to pair these colors in a creative way, so that you can dress festive for the holiday season!

Plaid is a great way to bring red and green to any look.  There are so many fun plaids out right now that combine these two colors together!  Right now all of these pieces are on sale!  You can shop the links above or below in Shop this post section.

This is the same look as before, but without the vest.  It gives this look a little dressier look and puts the focus on the plaid skirt rather than the vest.

Go bold with a causal look! Own the fact that you are rocking the Christmas colors in a bold way.  Add a gold statement necklace to help add a little sparkle and you are done!

When all else fails layer!  I love wearing layers to help add diversity to a look.  Find traditional pieces that are red and green to pair together.  This red vest and plaid scarf are closet staples that bring holiday cheer when paired together.  Add a neutral like navy to break apart the bold colors and tie everything together.  The vest and tunic are currently on sale!  How do you bring red and green into your daily style during the holiday season?

What touched me the most about Nicole and her company was the history behind her starting Simply9Designs.  As a mom of boys, I loved the connection and drive that it created for her!  Here is Nicole’s Story:

I have been sewing since I was a little girl (so yes a long time, lol). My mom used to always have me doing something crafty, but sewing was always a passion. Having the ability to customize something unique just for me was not only fun but rewarding, so I figured why not share the love. My son is my greatest motivation and because of him Simply9 Designs truly came to life. The name was developed as an honor to my son and filling a need I now had more than ever. “Simply” came from simply needing a stylish, functional & fun handbag that I could take from day to night. “9” is from my son  and I both having our birthdays on the 9th. So in honor of him and the drive he provided Simply9 Designs was born.

Every girl needs a clutch in her closet!  If you are looking for one to add check out Simply9Designs and use code “MANDY15” for 15% off your purchase!  I know this one will be making frequent appearances this holiday season!

img_2414edit

Can you think of anything better than leggings to wear on Thanksgiving?  Leggings when paired with the right pieces can look put together and classic!  Plus it gives you a little more room to have dessert at Grandma’s house!  If you have a casual Thanksgiving this look is for you!

This top from Amazon is less than $15.00 and is the perfect tunic length.  It has become a closet staple and has been in high rotation since last fall.   If you have Amazon Prime you can get it in time for Thanksgiving!  I love pairing it with my favorite pieces to come up with a comfy look that is perfect for any occasion.  For school, I would add a pair of black jeans to make it a little more work appropriate.

Easy Pattern Mixing!

I absolutely love pattern mixing.   When I first started, I began with patterns that I felt the most comfortable with.  Stripes are the easiest base to start with when you are pattern mixing.  If you don’t have a great striped tee or tunic you need to add one to your closet!  Stripes look great with just about anything!  My simplest tip for pattern mixing is start with a  striped top, and layer scarves. Scarves are the easiest way to add some dimension to any outfit.   Here are some more simple ways to ease yourself into pattern mixing.

photo1-2

  1.  Pick two different prints that share a single color or two. In this look both the stripes and the plaid in the scarf are black.  The scarf also has a touch of cobalt, but blends into the color palette.  My favorite color combo for mixing prints is black and white, and is the easiest to mix.

2.  Find prints of different scales or sizes.  One print will then dominate and while the other will act as an accent.  If you are still a little uneasy about mixing a bolder pattern try breaking up the printed pieces by layering a solid on top.  This will help make the pattern mixing seem a bit more subtle.  I like to add a cardigan or jacket to help break up busy looks.

3.  When all else fails add animal print!  I love animal print to the point that it is now a neutral in my closet!  I love pairing just about any print with animal print for an easy look.

What is your favorite way to mix patterns?  I would love to hear what your go to patterns are!
