Flirting With Fall

I absolutely love everything about fall!  I love the cool mornings and warm afternoons, sitting around a fire and roasting marshmallows, and watching football on tv.  Not to mention all the apples and pumpkin desserts!!!!  I may or may not have a countdown for the release of Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks.  Most of all though I love fall fashion!  Once school begins, I start dreaming of boots, scarves, and cozy layers.  Unfortunately, in Indiana we have quite awhile before we are ready for all those layers I am dreaming of!

To satisfy my fall fashion cravings I have began to flirt around with fall styles!  With the temps still warm I am pulling in fall inspiration with rich tones.  I tend to gravitate towards mustard yellow, burgundy, navy, and olive green.  These colors are in abundance in my closet and what I gravitate towards when shopping.

A sweet friend of mine introduced me to the owner of a fabulous new boutique in town.  I was excited to be invited to the soft opening of Meli Mei, which is located in a trendy area in downtown Fort Wayne in the City Exchange.  Fall was in full effect at Meli Mei.  My fall fashion loving heart was happy!

This dress caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to try it on!  The rich fall colors along with the fun floral pattern drew me.  The fun and flirty ruffle along the neckline was a unique touch that made this dress stand out to me.  I knew I wanted to pair it with my new Tom’s Peep Toe Booties I had picked up at the Nordstrom Sale.  I love the fun and flirty vibe from the entire look!   It was one of those looks that had me feeling confident from the moment I stepped out the door!

I added a natural stone necklace that I couldn’t resist from Meli Mei.  It was just enough to add a touch of detail to the entire look.  As I have been drawn to my Centered Jewelry bracelets lately those were a definite must to finish off this entire look.  If you are local you need to stop and check out Meli Mei this weekend for their grand opening.  If you are from out of town check out their Instagram page.  You will not be disappointed.  I cannot wait to make a trip back to visit again soon!

How to Style a Shirt Dress in an Unexpected Way

This week has been extremely busy with something every night!  Baseball and soccer have started for my oldest this week on top of a school concert and parent teacher conferences.  In addition to all of that, I have been packing for spring break top in Florida with my family.  I cannot wait for a whole week on the beach and sunny weather.  Be on the look out for some guest blog posts while I am gone this next week!  On top of that I get to see some of my favorite Instagram ladies before I leave for a girl’s night!

Every now and again, I love to play with pieces in my closet and style them in unexpected ways. This look from a few weeks ago was totally not planned, but I loved the outcome! For the wear what where style challenge for March the daily prompt was Moulin Rouge and I knew I wanted to add a touch of red to my outfit.  I don’t have a ton of red in my closet so I decided to get creative!

I had this dress from Nordstrom’s that I had only worn once, because it is hard to sit on the floor while wearing it at school.  I decided to see how it looked worn as a cardigan instead.  I instantly fell in love with the look.  The length is perfect with a dress underneath and adds visual interest.

The Carson Saddle Bag from Vera Bradley was the perfect addition to add a pop of color.  I love the way that red and turquoise pair together.  The colors are so bright yet contrast nicely together.   I am thinking I may try this open front dress with a tee and distressed jeans soon.  How do you wear pieces in unexpected ways?

Anorak Jacket: Closet Staple + Life

Life has been extremely crazy over the last few weeks!  We’ve had state testing going on at school, birthday celebrations, and just normal crazy life.  I had to take a step back from blogging for a few weeks to stay ahead of everything at home.  We are going to be starting baseball and soccer soon so I know that my posts may be sparse.  My hope is to post 1-2 times a week, but we will see.  Please check in over on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with daily outfit inspiration!  Once summer arrives I should have more time to blog regularly!

This week I found myself reaching for my Anorak Jacket two different times. This jacket is one of those closet staples that I can wear pretty much all year.  It can be dressed up with a sweater, accessories, and a pair of booties.

Nike Shoes: Option 1 || Option 2 || Option 3 ||

It can also worn casually with leggings and a pair of athletic shoes.  This is one of my favorite ways to be comfortable, yet still look put together.

The anorak jacket is also the perfect piece for layering on a day that starts off cool and ends warm.  The olive green is a neutral and goes with just about every color out there.  It pairs perfectly with other neutrals, brights, and pastels. What is your favorite way to wear your anorak jacket?

If you don’t have one, but are looking for the perfect one I have linked a few below!

Thanksgiving Look Part 3: Dress it Up!

img_2394edit

What to wear for Thanksgiving is just an added stress that you don’t need especially if you are cooking for a household of people.  If you have been reading the latest blog posts they have been full of inspiration.  Part 1 of the Thanksgiving looks series was preppy layers you can read about it here.  If being comfy and casual is more your speed you can read part 2 here.  Today’s look is how to dress it up!

This dress, Jessica, from Simple Addiction is the perfect dress for a dressy look that is comfortable, but still looks great.  I equate this dress to the Carly from LLR.  At half the price it is a definite piece you want to add to your closet.  It comes in 6 colors, but sizes are limited.  This dress is ultra comfortable and can be dressed up with just a few easy pieces!  For reference I am wearing a size small.

My first instinct when styling this look was to add a scarf.  Scarves are my go to accessory when temps turn cooler.  It looked good, but I wanted a more dressy look.  When trying to make a casual dress look even dressier, I always add a statement necklace.  This helps transform even the most basic dress into something special!

I have been looking for every excuse to wear my floppy hat.  I thought that this outfit screamed for some added sophistication.  The floppy hat adds just a fun touch to make you feel like you are a 1950’s starlet! Which of the three looks will you be rocking on Thanksgiving?
