Blogging has become a fun and creative outlet for me over the past year. I have found though at times I feel like an imposter, a fake! Why do I feel like an imposter you ask? As I follow other lovely bloggers, I read about things that they do and I find that I do not do any of them! For instance, I do not have a blogging calendar. This is the number one thing that I read that almost every blogger has. I tend to come up with my posts on the fly. If I wear an outfit that I absolutely love, or it uses aspects that I want to highlight, it then becomes a blog post.
Another reason I feel like a fake is that my photos are not high quality. Most of my pictures are taken with my iPhone7 by one of my boys who are 6 and 10 years old! I keep telling them I am getting them ready for a high paying career of photography. The background is usually my front yard or somewhere I happen to visit the day that I am wearing said favorite outfit. I do not have planned photo shoots to capture my looks.
My other issue is how awkward I feel in my photos. I never know how to stand or how to position my arms. I have tried to study others that I admire, and I just feel plain silly! While in public, I wait until there is a lull in the crowd and snap furiously until someone walks by. The same holds true when I am at home. As soon as I hear a car drive by I freeze. When people bring up the blog I tend to get embarrassed. I never know how to respond. I always wonder are they asking me about it because they are truly interested or making fun.
All of this being said, I am ok with feeling like an imposter. This is my real life. I am a mom, wife, and teacher. My life is busy! There are days I don’t put make-up on and don’t do my hair, especially during the summer! If you see pictures with a hat and sunglasses more than likely I am hiding that fact! I am a bargain shopper. I try not to buy anything that is not on sale or that I am not in love with. Everything that I wear is comfortable, and I wear in real life! I hope that all of these things make my style more relatable and easier for others to find inspiration.
I started blogging because I love clothing and creating outfits that help me feel good about myself. When I get dressed in the morning it is for me I choose what makes me feel great when I look in the mirror. Like most people, I love getting compliments on my outfits. The biggest compliment though is when I see someone recreate a look, and has that feeling of self-confidence that a great outfit can bring.
I have never regretted starting Musings of a Shopaholic Mama. I have loved every moment of this journey. I may not always have the time to devout to blogging, but it is nice to know that I can just be me. So when I start to feel like an imposter I need to remember that I am real. Life comes first. With this all being said, I hope you have found some real life inspiration for your wardrobe from some of my musings.
I totally HATE working out! I have never enjoyed it, and never gotten the runner’s high so many people talk about. I tried so many different workouts to keep me motivated. The only one I keep coming back to is Pilates and activities that are not high intensity. To help keep me motivated I like to have cute workout accessories!
I have challenged myself to set an exercise goal Monday through Friday. I recently got an Apple watch for Christmas and love the fact that it tracks both my workouts and my steps. I may not always get my steps in, but I know if it is a workout day I will definitely burn the targeted amount of calories. This has helped keep me on track and not feel overwhelmed! For some reason weekends are hard for me to meet my calorie goal though steps and workouts. I am looking forward warmer weather so I can begin my walks again! I had a fitbit before, but I love that I can dress up my apple watch by adding a few pretties!
In addition to Pilates, I am also doing the 21 Day fix two days a week. I know that it is meant to be done on a daily basis, but with busy schedules it is hard to coordinate. There are a group of girls I work with that meet two days a week to workout! I love having my Vera Bradley yoga mat for both workouts! It gives me something pretty to look at while I am dying from being out of shape.
I have been focusing on my health goal for a month now. You can read more about my original goals here. I lost a pound and gained half of it back. It has been frustrating! Last week I found it hard to get my workouts in. I traveled for work, and hubby was out-of-town for his work. I wanted to give up and not worry about eating healthy and not worry about working out. I decided that after 3 weeks I cannot give up! I am pushing on and thankfully I have a great group of girls that I work out with. They make it fun and help me push myself when I want to give up.
Today we started over on the 21 Day Fix. The first time I did Day 1 of cardio I couldn’t walk for about 5 days afterwards. My legs were so shaky that night walking out to my car I thought I wasn’t going to make it. Tonight, I felt so much stronger and the workout was easier than the first time! Which means I am getting stronger! This is what I am focusing on to keep me motivated! Along with cute outfits of course! What helps keep you motivated?

Linking up today, to celebrate the top 5 moments of my week! Since I am new to the blogging world, I thought this would be a great way for everyone to get to know me a little better! I would love to know your top 5 moments of the week! Please leave a comment😘.
I have decided, I need to begin trying to eat healthier. During the summer, my eating habits aren’t always the greatest. I find that I snack most of the day, and don’t sit down for an actual meal. Facebook now has a ton of recipes, and I recently found this one for Spinach and Feta Turkey Burgers from Allrecipes. I had some asparagus that was close to the end of its shelf life. It was super easy and tasted pretty good. I think next time, I will add a little worcheshire sauce to add more flavor!
This week was back to reality for work! I went to a two-day leadership conference for school. It was a great three days! There were dress guidelines for each day that made packing easy! To help with over packing, I made sure to try on all my outfits with shoes and accessories. Then laid all the outfits on my bed in groupings, so I could make sure I hadn’t forgotten anything!
Every July, I begin my hunt for the perfect notebook. I like to keep one notebook for the entire school year. This is an area I can keep meeting notes, to-do lists, and checklists. The best thing about it is that everything is in one central location! I bought mine a little early this year due to my training this week! I found this one at Meijer!
Have you ever heard Dave Weber speak? I had the privilege of hearing him speak about his book Sticks & Stones Exposed: The Truth Behind Words and Relationships. The biggest reminder I walked away with, was the 6 most powerful words. I’m sorry will you forgive me? When we make a mistake it important to own it.
After being gone from my boys all week, I was excited to take them to Mr. Mac Day today for Wildcat. The area where I live has a fabulous program called Wildcat. It was founded by a local businessman, and is still funded by a foundation his family has set up. Their motto for the league is that, “Everyone Makes the Team.” This league is very laid back and centrally located in different areas in the city. Kids who may not be able to play or afford to play in other leagues are given the change to play and to have fun!
Hello! I am so excited to start this blog! It is many years in the making! I started throwing around the idea of a blog about 5 years ago. I had no idea where to begin, so I put it off. A few years later a friend of mine introduced me to the fashion world of Instagram. I started off slowly posting pictures every now and then. The more I participated on IG and got to know the girls, the more I loved the new friends I met!
Last summer, I began to throw around the idea again of starting a blog. I had a million and one excuses so I put it off again. As my love of fashion has grown and I have grown more confident, I have decided to jump right in! I have decided that I am no longer making excuses. I am sure that there will be lots to learn and things will not be perfect, but I cannot wait to share this journey with all of you!
My name is Mandy and I am 35 years old. I have been married to my husband for 11 years and we have 2 boys. Ben is 9 and Will is 5 years old. I love being a #boymom and running them around to all of their activities. I have been teaching for 12 years. During the past 5 years I have been an instructional coach in a grades 3-5 building. I love my job in the fact that I get to help so many people!
My style varies depending on the time of year! During the summer you will see what I call my mom uniform of tank and shorts! During the school year you will see anything from workplace clothing to casual chic! I love the Loft and boutique clothing stores! As we go along I will share some of my favorite places!
